What is a spinal disc?

Our spines are made of hard bones separated by fluid filled sacs called discs. Spinal nerves, which carry messages to and from the brain, travel between the hard bones. The discs are responsible for preventing pressure on the spinal nerves by acting as spacers between the vertebras.

What does a disc become herniated?

When a person's spine becomes misaligned, or subluxated, the bones or vertebras cause unequal pressure on the disc. If the misalignment goes uncorrected, wearing of the discs occurs. Long term wearing or degeneration of the bones surrounding the disc will eventually cause the disc to bulge or herniated out of its normal position. In addition, physical stress of subluxated vertebras can cause a disc to bulge or herniated. In either case, the initial misalignment causing unequal pressure on the disc is the true cause of herniations.

How do M.D.s treat disc Herniations?

Medical doctors will usually prescribe a pain killer or anti-inflammatory for patients suffering from disc herniations. Unfortunately, the relief is usually short lived, and is reinjured easily. Next the doctor may suggest surgery. The success rate of disc herniation surgery is quite poor, only 4 percent for the low back and 8 percent for the neck.

How do Chiropractors correct disc herniations?

Chiropractors do not treat the symptoms caused by a disc herniation, but instead correct the subluxations (misalignments of the bones of the spine). Chiropractors correct the subluxations through adjustments. As the subluxations are corrected, the unequal pressure on the discs is removed. With the pressure removed, the discs reimbibe (fill back with fluid). The results are long lasting. In addition, there are no side effects as with drugs or surgery.

Try Chiropractic, you will be amazed with the results.
